Privacy Policy

This page explains what information TicketingPad collects about you, why we need it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We have tried to write it in ordinary language rather than legal wording.
1. Who we are
TicketingPad is an events and ticketing platform operating in Botswana. It is made up of this website and the TicketingPad mobile app. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean TicketingPad, and “you” means anyone using it — whether you are buying tickets or selling them.
We are responsible for the personal information described here. If you want to talk to us about any of it, write to support@ticketingpad.com.
2. What we collect
When you create an account. Your name, your email address, and a password. A phone number if you choose to give one — it is optional. We never store your actual password: we store a scrambled version that cannot be turned back into the original, not even by us.
If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple. We receive your name, your email address and confirmation that the address is really yours. We do not receive your password for those services, and we cannot post anything or read anything else on your account there.
When you first open the app. The kinds of events you say you are interested in, and the town you say you are in. Both are optional and both only change what we show you first.
Your location, only if you allow it. The app asks the phone for an approximate location — roughly which town you are in, not your exact position — so it can show you what is on nearby. You can refuse, and everything still works: you pick your town from a list instead. You can turn it off again at any time in your phone’s settings.
What you do on TicketingPad. Tickets you buy, orders you place, what is in your basket, events you save as favourites, comments and reviews you write, polls you vote in, and messages you send to organisers. Pictures and videos you upload to an event listing.
If you apply to sell tickets. Your business or organiser name and contact details, plus photographs of an identity document and a photo of your face. We ask for these because anyone taking other people’s money on TicketingPad has to be a real, identifiable person. See section 5 — these are handled more carefully than anything else here.
Notifications. If you allow notifications, your phone gives us a token — an anonymous address for that one device — so we can send you things like “your event starts tomorrow”. It does not identify you to anyone else and you can turn notifications off at any time.
Ordinary technical records. Like any website, our servers keep short-lived records of requests made to them, including your device’s internet address. These are used to keep the service running and to spot abuse.
3. Why we collect it
- To give you an account, sign you in, and keep it yours — including proving your email address is really yours before the account can be used.
- To sell you a ticket, get it to you, and let you show it at the door.
- To let organisers run their events, see who is coming, and let people in.
- To show you events that are relevant to where you are and what you like.
- To tell you things you need to know — a reminder before an event, a change of venue, a cancellation.
- To check that people selling tickets are who they say they are.
- To keep the platform safe: stopping fraud, spam, and people misusing it.
- To keep records we are required to keep, such as records of sales.
We do not sell your personal information to anybody. We do not use it to build advertising profiles for other companies.
4. Who else sees it
Event organisers. When you buy a ticket to an event, the organiser of that event can see your name, your email address and the ticket you hold. They need this to let you in and to contact you if the event changes. They only ever see this for their own events.
Other people using TicketingPad. Anything you post publicly — a comment or a review — is visible with your name next to it. Nothing else you do is shown to other users.
Companies that help us run the service. We use other companies for hosting, sending email, and delivering notifications. They only handle your information to do that job for us:
- Hostinger — hosts the servers and the database.
- Google (Firebase) — delivers push notifications to your phone.
- Google, Facebook and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them, and only to confirm who you are.
- Our email provider — sends verification codes, receipts and reminders.
- A payment provider, once card and mobile-money payments go live. Your card details will go to them directly and will never be stored on TicketingPad’s own servers.
If the law requires it. We may have to hand over information to a court, the police, or a regulator where we are legally obliged to. We will not do this simply because we are asked.
Some of these companies keep data on servers outside Botswana. Where that happens, we rely on their contractual commitments to protect it to the standard described here.
5. Identity documents
Identity documents sent as part of an application to sell tickets are treated differently from everything else on TicketingPad. They are stored in a separate place from ordinary pictures, they are never part of any public page, and they can only be opened by the person who sent them and by a TicketingPad administrator reviewing the application.
They are used for one purpose only: deciding whether to approve the application. They are not used for advertising, they are not shared with other users, and they are not sold.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account information: for as long as your account exists.
- Records of tickets and payments: kept after that, because we are required to keep records of sales for a number of years.
- Identity documents: kept while you are an approved organiser, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case a dispute arises about an event you ran.
- Notification tokens: removed when you turn notifications off or uninstall the app.
- Technical server records: kept for a short period only.
7. What you can ask us to do
You can ask us at any time to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong — most of it you can change yourself in the app, under your profile.
- Delete your account and the personal information attached to it. Some records of completed sales must be kept, and we will tell you which.
- Stop sending you notifications or marketing emails. You can also do this from your phone's settings.
- Withdraw your permission for anything you agreed to, such as location.
Write to support@ticketingpad.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to Botswana’s data protection authority.
8. Keeping it safe
Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. Passwords are stored scrambled and cannot be read by us. Identity documents are kept apart from public files. Access to the administrator tools is restricted.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If something happens that puts your information at serious risk, we will tell you and the relevant authority.
9. Children
TicketingPad is not intended for children under 18. If you are under 18, you may only use it with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian. If we find out we are holding information about a child without that permission, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
